A Note From feedfeed
This is a great way to serve a refreshing beverage for a mixed age crowd! Keep it virgin or set out a few different spirits so guests can customize their cocktails -- we love it with a splash of mezcal (recipe below). If you don't want to purchase the tap, you can use the same method, but use the melon as a punch bowl and serve the juice using a ladle.

For the Watermelon Keg/Agua Fresca
ingredients
- 1 whole (about 12 pounds) seedless watermelon
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 3 limes
To Make the Watermelon Keg
Method
Step 1
Trim one side of the watermelon slightly (you don't want the flesh exposed) so you can stand the melon up on a flat edge. Cut slightly more off the other side exposing the flesh. Scoop the inside of the melon out using a large spoon (like when you carve a pumpkin!), and add contents to fill a large blender. Add any excess to a bowl to blend separately.
Step 2
Blend watermelon flesh in batches (if needed) and strain into a large pitcher. Add simple syrup and lime juice and stir.
Step 3
Next, add the tap. Find a fairly flat spot on the melon. Using the tap as a guide, decide where to place it. You want to make sure you have clearance under the tap so you can fill your glasses. Once you find the spot, use an apple corer to create a hole. Then add the tap and secure it inside the melon using the included hex nut.
Step 4
Pour the liquid into the keg, add the top and serve!
