Homemade Biscuits 101

Southern Buttermilk Biscuits



2 cups all purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold

2 tbsp shortening, cold

3/4 cup buttermilk



Sift together dry ingredients.


Cut cold butter and shortening into small pieces.


Cut butter mix into dry ingredients until crumbly using a fork or a pastry cutter to avoid warming the butter.


Add cold buttermilk and mix just until it comes together. Do not overmix.


Roll dough into 1/2 -3/4 inch thickness. Cut out with 2 inch round cutter.


Bake at 450F degrees until golden - about 10 minutes.
