Chocolate Muffins with Nutella®

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder, optional*
  • 1/2 cup Nutella®
  • Holiday Sprinkles, optional*


  • Step 1

    In a large bowl, mix together eggs, unsweetened applesauce, honey, Greek yogurt and vanilla.

  • Step 2

    In a separate bowl, combine cocoa powder, whole wheat flour, salt, cinnamon, espresso powder (really enhances the chocolate flavor!) and baking soda. Mix well.

  • Step 3

    Add the dry ingredients to the wet. Like a cupcake tin with 12 liners and pour in the batter.

  • Step 4

    Bake at 350 for 17-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out with any wet batter sticking to it. Let cool for 20 minutes.

  • Step 5

    Remove the center of each muffin and add one scoop of delicious Nutella® then frost some with Nutella® on top and add snowflake sprinkles. I like to leave a few unfrosted too!
