At The Feedfeed we're all about eating local. In fact our company was started back in 2013 as a way to use Instagram as a tool for cooking up locally grown food in new an exciting ways during the long winter months on the East Coast. That means apples in the fall, squash in the winter, spring greens and ramps (if we're lucky!) and bountiful fresh berries in the summer. But what about rice? When thinking locally, rice is usually not top of mind but thanks to our work with the Think Rice team that perspective has totally shifted.
You may be surprised to learn that over 85% of the rice consumed in the United States is grown stateside. More specifically more than 15 varieties of rice are grown throughout Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas. 18 billion pounds to be exact!
In addition to the benefits this has on the local communities and the people who eat it, these U.S farms are also reducing the use of natural resources and focusing on sustainable practices which have a direct impact on wildlife who call these rice fields home.
