The Feedfeed Weekly: Beach Edition

If you’re anything like me, my July weekends are spent taking the ferry to the Rockaways, given that I live in Brooklyn. The cost of food in these pricey beach areas is exorbitant. This past weekend, I paid $7 for a watermelon juice, which I chugged in 0.5 seconds given how hot this summer heat has been. I thought, with a little more prep, you (and myself!) can have a successful and delicious beach day without breaking the bank. These recipes are here to help – just grab your cooler or picnic basket!

Here are some smart tips for bringing your own food to the beach

  • Choose Portable Foods: Opt for foods that are easy to transport and eat, like sandwiches, wraps, salads in jars, or pre-cut fruits and vegetables.

  • Pack in Cooler Bags: Use insulated cooler bags or coolers with ice packs to keep perishable foods fresh and safe to eat.

  • Prevent Soggy Food: Pack sandwiches and wraps with sturdy fillings to avoid them becoming soggy. Wrap them in reusable snack sheets or foil for easy handling.

  • Snack Smart: Pack snacks that won't easily melt or get crushed, such as nuts, granola bars, whole fruits, and cheese sticks.

  • Bring Utensils and Napkins: Pack reusable utensils, napkins, and wet wipes for easy cleanup and convenience.
