My Recipes
This is still one of my favorite pages from Black Girl Baking because if my daddy was a recipe he would be this Honey Wheat Cinnamon Raisin Bread. I can smell him when I bake this. I think I learned more about him from the way he ate things than from the sparse words we exchanged. As a girl I saw him as a resilient and guarded man, unfussy and intimidating, and because I didn't quite know how to reach him emotionally, I would just watch him pack his sandwiches for lunch instead. Love you pops!
Soup Sunday: African-Spiced Tomato Carrot Bisque in a Dukkah-Rubbed Bread Bowl (shoutout to Berbere in this one for being the true shooting ????) I hope you make this soon! Recipe below????????: 2 tbsp olive oil 2 shallots, diced 1 Tbsp berbere 1/2 tsp cumin powder 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 tbsp minced ginger 2 stems of fresh thyme 2 large carrots, peeled and diced 1 cup canned crushed tomato sauce 3 cups low sodium vegetable broth S & P, to taste juice of 1 lemon Bread bowl- Cut the top off a bread loaf, scoop out the extra bread in the center, and then rub with -dukkah blend (chopped peanuts, chopped hazelnuts, sesame seeds, coriander powder, salt, cumin, olive oil, grated garlic) Topping: More olive oil, black sesame seeds for color (optional), harissa!! Heat the oil in a saucepan, and saute the shallots for a couple minutes until tender, add the berbere spice and cumin and cook for another minute or until fragrant. Add the garlic, ginger, and thyme sprigs, and cook a few more minutes, stirring frequently. Add the chopped carrots, crushed tomatoes, vegetable broth, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium and cook for ~25-30 minutes or until the carrots are tender. Remove the stems from the thyme after the leaves have fallen off, and blend the soup with an immersion blender until silky smooth. Add in the lemon juice. Taste and add more salt or lemon juice if needed. Rub the prepared bread bowl on the outsides and inside with the dukkah blend, grated garlic, and olive oil and toast in a 500 degree oven until crusty and brown. Fill with the warm soup and serve! It's delcioussssss

I just uploaded the trailer to the blog to show a sneak peak of its insides!! Link in bio to watch! And of course, Sunday soup stuff coming at you tomorrow! Happy weekend!! ????

Spiced Peppermint Hot Chocolate
We made a big batch of Peppermint Spiced Hot Chocolate last night that's so flavorful and decadent. The peppermint brightens it up just enough without it being too overpowering. Hopefully this will help ease you into your Monday.
