Crispy Tofu

ingredients

  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, frozen and thawed
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 6 tablespoons gluten-free all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Sauce

ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1 salt, to taste

Crispy Tofu

Method

  • Step 1

Cube or tear thawed tofu into pieces. Drizzle with sesame oil.

  • Step 2

Mix together garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and gluten-free flour. Dip each piece of tofu in the flour mixture and coat all sides. Gently tap off excess flour.

  • Step 3

Place tofu in air-fryer at 350°F and cook for 10-15 minutes, until lightly browned and crispy.

Sauce

  • Step 1

While the tofu is cooking, make the sauce. Add all ingredients to a saucepan over medium low heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes to warm and thicken. Stir frequently to prevent burning. Turn off heat and cover to keep warm until the tofu is ready.

  • Step 2

Taste sauce and add salt if needed. Add tofu to the sauce. Mix until the tofu is well coated in the sauce. Serve warm and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
