This frothy sweet and sour cocktail is made with a delicious basil grapefruit simple syrup. This simple syrup is what gives this drink its gorgeous purple color. To get this frothy top, add an egg white along with ingredients in a shaker. Trust us, after you've tried this trick, your cocktail game won't ever be the same.

Basil Grapefruit Simple Syrup

ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 whole grapefruit rind
  • Fresh basil

Simple Syrup

Method

  • Step 1

    Add sugar, water, and grapefruit rind to a small saucepan and bring to a boil until sugar has completely dissolved. Add a couple basil leaves and reduce to a simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and strain into a glass container. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes prior to use in cocktail.

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
  • 3/4 cup basil grapefruit syrup
  • 1/2 ounce egg white
  • Basil leaf, garnish

Cocktail

  • Step 1

    Add ingredients to a shaker. Shake for 30 seconds. Add ice and shake for another 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a basil leaf.
