Recipe Card
ingredients
- 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry
- 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
- Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375F degrees.
Step 2
Roll out two puff pastry sheets. Place one sheet onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Cut out a tree shape. Note: Using a printed tree as a stencil works well.
Step 3
Evenly spread mascarpone over tree shape. Place Nutella in a piping bag and pipe over top of mascarpone, using an offset spatula spread out evenly.
Step 4
Lay second sheet of puff pastry on top. Cut the second sheet along the same lines as the bottom tree. Tear away the excess puff pastry. Reserve.
Step 5
Starting right above the trunk, cut branches by making horizontal lines, 1 inch apart, all the way up the tree. Repeat on other side. Twist each branch and press end into baking sheet to hold it in place.
Step 6
Cut out 2 stars with trimmings. Spread mascarpone and Nutella on one and make a star ‘sandwich.’ Place it on the top of tree.
Step 7
Brush top with egg wash. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
