(0)
"Char Siu, Chinese BBQ Pork, is one of the best known dishes in China. I made it once before with a pork roast but it can easily also be cooked with pork belly. It’s easy and relatively quick."

ingredients

  • 500 g Pork Belly
  • 4 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing Wine or dry Sherry
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp chopped Garlic
  • Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger Powder

Method

  • Step 1

Mix all ingredients for the marinade and mix until the sugar has dissolved. Put the pork belly into the marinade and let marinate over night or for at least 6 hours.

  • Step 2

Pre-heat the oven to 180 C and put a baking tray under the baking roast, so the liquid will not drip into your oven.

  • Step 3

Put the pork belly onto the baking roast and turn it oven every 10 minutes. Each time baste the meat with the leftover marinade. Do this for 40 minutes, then the meat should be cooked. If your piece of belly is very thick add more cooking time.

  • Step 4

If you have a grill function in your oven, you can use that, but be careful not to burn the meat, as the sugar will turn black fast.

  • Step 5

You can serve the pork belly warm or cold!

  • Step 6

Tip: If you like it sticky, pour the leftover marinade into a small pan and bring to a boil, reduce the heat and let simmer for a few minutes. The sauce will reduce and thicken. Serve the meat with the sauce or serve the sauce as a dip with the diced pork belly at your party!
