Recipe Intro From lisathompson
This recipe was crowd-sourced from our Feedfeed community when we asked what we should make with an excess of apples (an online grocery order error!). Lots of you wrote in with suggestions ranging from apple pie to cornbread-stuffed baked apples (which sounds incredible, but my apples were too small to stuff). I decided to open my pantry and use just what I had to create something delicious and that led me to this easy maple apple butter. While this recipe does not actually include butter, the luscious texture is perfect to spread on toast, smother on a pork chop, swirl into oatmeal, or bake into my free-form apple tart.

ingredients
- 3 pounds (about 11 small) tart apples (such as Granny Smith), cored and roughly chopped
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch kosher salt
Method
Step 1
Add apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt to a medium Dutch oven and cook on medium-high heat, stirring often for15 minutes. Cover, reduce heat to low, and cook for another 45-55 minutes, until mixture is dark and thick.
Step 2
Transfer to a food processor and purée until completely smooth. Taste and season with more maple syrup, salt, or cinnamon, if needed. Let cool completely at room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.
