Ingredient Notes
Medjool Dates: The star of the recipe! Their natural sweetness and sticky texture help bind everything together. Make sure to use soft, fresh dates—if yours are dry, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes first.
Chocolate Protein Powder: Adds a protein boost while enhancing the chocolate flavor. If you don’t have any, swap it for more oat flour or cocoa powder.
Nut Butter: Helps with creaminess and adds healthy fats. Use almond, peanut, or cashew butter, or opt for a nut-free version like sunflower seed butter.
Oat Flour: A mild, gluten-free flour that keeps the bites soft and chewy. You can make your own by blending oats in a food processor until fine.
Honey or Maple Syrup: Adds a little extra sweetness and moisture. Choose maple syrup for a vegan-friendly option.
Dark Chocolate Chips: Use at least 70% dark chocolate for a richer, less sugary coating.
Flaky Sea Salt: The finishing touch! It enhances the chocolate flavor and adds the perfect balance of sweet and salty.
FAQs
Can I make these without protein powder?
Yes! Simply swap the protein powder for an extra tablespoon of oat flour or cocoa powder for the same consistency.
What’s the best nut butter to use?
Almond, peanut, or cashew butter all work well. If you prefer a nut-free version, sunflower seed butter is a great alternative.
Can I store these at room temperature?
They’re best stored in the fridge for up to a week, but you can also freeze them for up to a month!
What’s the best way to melt chocolate for dipping?
If microwaving, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between to prevent burning. You can also melt it over a double boiler for a smoother consistency.
