ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal
- salt
- 1 tbsp turmeric
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 inches cinnamon
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 2 tbsp coconut slices
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafetida
- 2 whole red chilies
- 2 green cardamom
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp ghee
Method
Step 1
Rinse Chana Dal till clean. Put dal in the pressure cooker and add salt and turmeric. Put in bay leaf and cinnamon. Pressure cook for 7 whistles to the dal is completely cooked.
Step 2
Heat mustard oil. Fry the coconut slices till golden. Keep aside. In the remaining oil temper whole red chilies, cinnamon, cumin seeds, green cardamom and asafetida. Let it splutter and turn aromatic.
Step 3
Add cooked Dal. Add 1 cup of water to dilute the dal a bit. Let it come to a boil.
Step 4
Add sugar and ghee. Serve with fried coconut slices.
