FAQs
Can I use a different type of cracker?
Yes! If you don’t have saltines, you can substitute Ritz crackers for a slightly butterier flavor or graham crackers for a sweeter base.
What’s the best way to store this candy?
Once fully set, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Can I use different chocolates?
Absolutely! You can customize the chocolate layers with semi-sweet, dark, or even flavored chocolate (like caramel or mint) for a unique twist.
Why didn’t my toffee set properly?
Be sure to boil the butter and sugar mixture for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. The mixture should be thickened before pouring over the crackers.
Ingredient Notes
Saltine Crackers: These provide the signature crisp texture, but graham crackers or Ritz can be used for variation.
Butter & Brown Sugar: This duo creates the rich toffee layer—use unsalted butter to control saltiness.
Chocolate: A mix of dark, milk, and white chocolate gives depth of flavor, but feel free to adjust the ratio or use what you have on hand.
Cadbury Eggs: The Easter classic! If unavailable, swap for M&M’s, mini chocolate eggs, or chopped chocolate bars.
Sprinkles (Optional): Add a festive touch with pastel sprinkles for Easter or customize for different holidays!
