Ingredient Notes
Crescent Roll Dough: Store-bought crescent roll dough is a convenient option for forming the cornucopias. Its light, flaky texture makes the perfect vessel for holding the charcuterie fillings. Feel free to use puff pastry as a substitute if preferred.
Cooking Spray: Helps prevent the dough from sticking to the molds while baking, ensuring the cornucopia shapes hold up and release easily.
Egg Wash: The egg wash gives the crescent roll dough a beautiful golden-brown finish and adds a slight sheen to the cornucopias.
Charcuterie Meats: Choose two varieties of your favorite charcuterie meats, such as salami, prosciutto, or pepperoni. Their salty, savory flavors pair wonderfully with the cheeses and fruits.
Charcuterie Cheeses: Pick two types of cheese to add richness and creaminess. Soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese, or firm options like cheddar or gouda, work well.
Seasonal Fruit: Grapes, figs, or berries provide a sweet, juicy contrast to the savory meats and cheeses, balancing the flavors and adding a fresh element.
Nuts: Add a crunchy texture with a handful of nuts. Almonds, walnuts, or pecans are great options to round out the mini charcuterie cups.
Fresh Rosemary: A fragrant garnish that adds an earthy aroma and a pop of color. Perfect for a festive touch!
FAQs
How do I keep the puff pastry cornucopias from losing their shape?
Gently mold the pastry around a rolled-up piece of foil to maintain the shape.
Are these cornucopia charcuterie cups good for outdoor parties or picnics?
Yes! These are great for outdoor gatherings, as they’re easy to transport and serve. Just keep them covered to prevent the puff pastry from softening, and store the fillings separately until you're ready to assemble them.
What other fillings can I use besides meat, cheese, and grapes?
Feel free to get creative with the fillings! Try adding nuts, dried fruit like figs or apricots, or even small pickles for a tangy twist.
Recipe Card
ingredients
- 1 package store-bought crescent roll dough
- Cooking spray
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 charcuterie meats of choice
- 2 charcuterie cheeses of choice
- Seasonal fruit
- Nuts
- Fresh rosemary, for garnish
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375F. Take 2-4 pieces of aluminum foil and fold it in half long-ways. Then, twist them up into a cone shape. Spray the cones with cooking spray.
Step 2
Open the crescent roll dough. Cut it into long 1-inch wide strips. Wrap the strips around the foil cones, continuing around and pinching the seams together to recreate the cone shapes.
Step 3
Line a baking sheet with parchment. Lay the crescent cones on, then brush them on all sides with egg wash. Bake for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. When done, carefully remove the inner pieces of foil from the cones.
Step 4
Use small skewers to create little charcuterie sticks of your meats and cheeses. Place those into the cones and add in the fresh rosemary, plus fruit and nuts. Serve and enjoy!
