ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 pound (about 4 links) spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can Red Gold Diced Tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon chili powder, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 12 count sweet Hawaiian rolls
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or white cheddar cheese
- 1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chives, chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Method
Step 1
In a large skillet over medium high heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Step 2
Cook the ground sausage until brown, breaking up with your spatula into tiny pieces, about 6-8 minutes.
Step 3
Add the petite diced tomatoes, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and flour. Mix well. Simmer for 5-6 minutes, until tomato sauce is reduced by half. Remove from heat to cool 5-10 minutes.
Step 4
In the meantime, slice the slider rolls in half lengthwise. Drizzle the bottom half with olive oil then broil on HIGH in the oven for 2-3 minutes, until browned.
Step 5
Spoon the spicy Italian sausage mixture onto the toasted sliders, add the shredded cheese, then the top half of the rolls.
Step 6
In a small bowl, mix the basil, chives, and melted butter. Brush on the top of the sliders.
Step 7
Bake covered 10 minutes, then uncovered 10-12 minutes, until cheesy is fully melted. Enjoy warm!
