From Mother's Day to graduations and birthdays, spring is a time for celebration! This year, we're excited to dust off our cheese boards and safely host family and friends once again. We partnered with Harry & David, Rosana Machiela of @yogaofcooking and Bev Weidner of @bevcooks to put together our best tips and tricks for spring entertaining!
Tip #1 Get Inspired
Let your ingredients inspire you. When Rosana serves a cheese board or appetizers, she loves offering her guests suggestions for what goes together. She takes inspiration from pinchos (or pintxos), the bite-size Spanish snacks typically eaten in bars. Commonly served on a piece of bread with a cocktail skewer, they can be enjoyed in one or two bites. Wrap slices of ripe pear in Iberico ham with fig preservesor fresh blackberries.
Tip #2 Simple Is Best
Go for crowd-pleasers like Gouda, sharp cheddar and salami. Set out different types of preserves and chutneys for mixing-and-matching. Offer lots of crackers, sliced bread, nuts and olives for guests to nibble. Bev likes to stick to a simple formula when entertaining: start with a cheese, add charcuterie, something piquant like olives and always include a little something sweet, like chocolate!
Tip #3 Experiment with Garnishes
Herbs add a pop of color and freshness to both cheese boards and crostini appetizers. Serving rosemary asiago? Tuck sprigs of fresh rosemary on your cheese board to play up the flavor profile. Think outside the box! Bev garnishes her apple and gouda crostini with fresh basil from her garden. She pairscheddar, pearsand Jalapeño Pepper Jelly with sprigs of fresh mint for balance.
