Tips:
-make your syrup first before anything and let it cool
-place a damp towel over your phyllo dough while working with it to prevent it from drying/breaking
-butter EACH phyllo dough sheet. yes, it’ll add a few more minutes to your prep time but trust me it’s worth it!

Syrup

ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Syrup

Method

  • Step 1

    Combine the ingredient to a sauce pan and bring to medium heat. Once sugar dissolves, bring to full boil. Turn heat to low for 3-5 minutes. Set aside.

Filling

ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Filling

  • Step 1

    Grind all of the ingredients in a food processor. Reserve ½ cup of filling and set aside.

To Assemble

  • 1-2 sticks of melted butter
  • 1 package phyllo dough

To Assemble

  • Step 1

    Butter a baking sheet.

  • Step 2

    Place 7-8 phyllo sheets (each one buttered) on the baking pan. Top with an even layer of filling mixture

  • Step 3

    Top with 5 more sheets of buttered phyllo dough. Layer filling again and repeat 5 sheets and filling.

  • Step 4

    Repeat this process until you get to your last top 5 sheets.

  • Step 5

    Butter the top and cut into desired pieces

  • Step 6

    Place into the oven until golden (15 - 20 minutes)

  • Step 7

    Drizzle with the cooled syrup.

  • Step 8

    Sprinkle with reserved filling.

  • Step 9

    Set aside 2-3 hours before serving.
