For the Loaf
ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup sour cream, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, melted
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
ingredients
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing on the loaf
To make the loaf
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, sour cream, and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
Step 4
Pour the wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 5
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.

To make the cinnamon sugar topping
Step 1
In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined.
Step 2
Brush the top of the baked and cooled loaf with melted butter.
Step 3
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the top of the loaf.
Step 4
Slice and serve the loaf while still warm.
