I’ve always considered food to be art and I’ve always known myself to be a frustrated artist. I’ve always been a creative. I was an art major in college and for a very long time now, my creativeness has come out and manifested itself in my culinary adventures. To me, food is incredibly beautiful and for a long time I have considered it to be my muse. I’m a visual person who gets inspired by a beautiful image and pretty things. I began to see this ‘Focaccia Art’ on social media a couple of weeks ago and immediately was transfixed. Taking something so ordinary and turning it into extraordinary by simply adding a few ingredients. Painting the canvas of dough with some veggies and herbs and creating effortless beauty. That’s my jam and I knew I had to take a stab at it. -@dianemorrisey

Make the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flours and salt.

  • Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, stir together a little less than 1 cup lukewarm tap water, the yeast and the olive oil, then pour it into flour mixture. Knead with your hands until combined, approximately 3 minutes, then let the mixture rest for 15 minutes.

Place on floured surface, cover with dampened cloth, and let rest and rise for 3 to 4 hours at room temperature.

  • Step 5

    Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • Step 6

Grease the bottom of a pan and lay the dough on top. Make indentations with your fingers on top. Create your flowers using chives and parsley for the stems and the tomatoes for the flowers. Once done, drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 7

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown and serve immediately.
