These frosted sugar cookie bars are such a fun and easy holiday treat to bake. Each bar gets topped with the perfect cream cheese frosting and lots of festive sprinkles. Sugar cookie bars are a great alternative to all of the traditional Christmas cookie recipes!

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/8 cups all purpose flour

Frosting

ingredients

  • 1 unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • sprinkles, optional

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9x13 inch pan with parchment paper.

  • Step 2

    In a large bowl or in the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

  • Step 3

    Add vanilla extract, almond extract, and eggs. Mix to combine.

  • Step 4

    Fold in salt, baking soda, and flour to form a dough.

  • Step 5

    Transfer the dough into your prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on the edges.

Frosting

  • Step 1

    In a large bowl or in the bowl of your stand mixer whip the butter, cream cheese, vanilla, almond extract, and salt.

  • Step 2

    Add the powdered sugar cup by cup, mixing after each addition.

  • Step 3

    Add the milk or cream as needed to bring frosting to a smooth consistency.

  • Step 4

    Scoop the frosting on top of the cooled bars and spread out into an even layer. Top with sprinkles of your choice.

  • Step 5

    Cut the bars into squares and enjoy!
