  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • For Buttercream Frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon coloring, optional

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch cake pan.

  • Step 2

    In a bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and salt to this mixture.

  • Step 3

    Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well.

  • Step 4

    Stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

  • Step 5

    For the Frosting - Cream room temperature butter with the paddle attachment of a bowl of the mixer.

  • Step 6

    Slowly beat in confectioners' sugar until fully incorporated. Beat in vanilla extract.

  • Step 7

    Pour in milk and beat for an additional 3-4 minutes. Add you favourite food coloring, and beat for few seconds until smooth.
