For the Hand Pies:
ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon Roasted Beef Base (Reduced Sodium)
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
For the Cranberry Orange Dipping Sauce:
ingredients
- 2 cup frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- Juice and zest of ½ orange
- 1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon Roasted Beef Base (Reduced Sodium)
Prepare the Filling:
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Step 2
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the diced onion and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
Step 4
Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and Better Than Bouillon. Mix well, then remove from heat and let cool.
Assemble the Hand Pies:
Step 1
Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut out 3-inch circles using a cookie cutter or glass.
Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create an egg wash.
Step 3
Place about 2 tablespoons of beef filling on one half of each pastry circle. Brush the edges with egg wash, fold the pastry over to enclose the filling, and press the edges to seal.
Step 4
Arrange the hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush the tops with egg wash.
Step 5
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
Make the Cranberry Orange Dipping Sauce:
Step 1
In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, water, sugar, orange juice, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
Step 2
Stir in the Better Than Bouillon and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool before serving.
Step 3
Plate the hand pies with a small bowl of dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy warm!
