ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 large Vidalia onions, halved and sliced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • 4-8 slices Finlandia Swiss Cheese
  • green onions, for garnish, optional

Method

  • Step 1

    Caramelize the onions: add butter and oil to a large pan over low heat. Add onions. Cover, cook for 45 minutes on low heat, giving it a quick stir every 5 minutes. Once onions are soft and caramelized, remove from heat.

  • Step 2

    Combine ground meat, salt pepper, and garlic powder. Divide into 4 flat patties. Cook each patty until your liking. I cooked mine for a total of 7 minutes (about 3 1/2 minutes on each side) for medium doneness.

  • Step 3

    During the last minute of cooking, add a slice or two of Finlandia Swiss Cheese on top of each burger. Cover to melt. Let the burgers rest for a couple of minutes.

  • Step 4

    Place burger on a burger bun bottom, top with caramelized onions and green onions, if using, and burger bun top.
