ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 7 tablespoons butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablepoons heavy cream

Method

  • Step 1

To make the brownies, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a 8X8 inch baking pan.

  • Step 2

Combine 1 1/4 cup brown sugar, oil, 3 tablespoons melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and unsweetened cocoa powder. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and baking powder. Add this dry mixture to the wet one, and stir until just combined.

  • Step 3

Pour the batter into your prepared baking pan, and bake for 35 - 40 minutes - or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out with only a few crumbs stuck to it. Remove them from your oven and set them on a wire rack to cool.

  • Step 4

To make the salted caramel sauce, place the remaining butter, the remaining brown sugar, the heavy cream, and the salt in a saucepan. Begin to melt the butter and combine the ingredients at a medium high heat, stirring frequently.

  • Step 5

Continue to stir as you bring the mixture to a boil for 2 minutes. Then, turn off the heat, and pour the salted caramel sauce into a bowl. Set it aside for a few minutes to cool and thicken up a bit.

  • Step 6

Use a spoon to drizzle the sauce over your brownies. Use a sharp knife to cut them into squares and enjoy!
