Buttery Hasselback Apples

Recipe Intro From pinchofkate

Buttery and just enough sweet for these hasselback apples.

INGREDIENTS
5 peeled gala apples (or any crisp variety)
4 tablespoons @omgheebutter
3 tablespoons coconut palm sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch salt

DIRECTIONS
Cut five apples in half vertically. Remove the core with a spoon and place flat side down on a cutting board. Cut narrow slices, about 1/2 deep (take your time during this step so you don't cut all the way through). Place in a glass baking pan.

Over low heat melt ghee, whisk in sugar/cinnamon/salt and heat for a few minutes stirring regularly. Brush apples using up about half the liquid and set rest aside. Bake for 15 minutes covered with foil. Remove foil, bake for 8 more minute. Spoon remaining liquid over apples, encouraging slices to splay open to absorb liquid. Bake for another 8 minutes, broiling for the last two.

Served with coconut ice cream here, but perfect on their own or topped with greek yogurt and walnuts for breakfast. You could also chop these up and serve over oatmeal.
