The base of this easy babka recipe has just 3-ingredients: flour, yogurt, and baking powder. Halloumi & mozzarella cheese are rolled into the dough, along with fresh herbs.

Dough

ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 00 flour
  • 2/3 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Method

  • Step 1

    Mix together till you form a dough, cover with clingwrap and leave for 30min (can leave for longer) anymore then 2 hours should go in the fridge.

  • Step 2

    After 30 min knead for a few minutes on floured surface (it will be sticky) roll out into a large circle and place on greaseproof paper.

  • 150 grams halloumi
  • 70 grams mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup mint and thyme, chopped
  • Honey, for drizzling
  • Sesame seeds, to garnish

Assembly

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350.

  • Step 2

    Drizzle some honey over the dough add the cheese mix and roll.

  • Step 3

    Brush with egg wash & top with sesame seeds.

  • Step 4

    Lift the greaseproof paper with the bread on it and place on an oven dish.

  • Step 5

    You can tuck the ends under and put in a loaf tray for a more traditional Babka but I decided to keep it longer and cook in a baking tray and loved the way it came out.

  • Step 6

    Bake for approx 35 min.

  • Step 7

    Best served warm.
