Dark Chocolate Cherry Babka Filling
"For my dark chocolate cherry babka, I use the challah dough recipe from "Holiday and Celebration Bread in Five Minutes a Day" by Zoe Fracois and Jeff Hertzberg. I used the babka assembly and cooking instructions from the book, but created my own filling. This filling is for one babka loaf (1 pound of dough rolled out into a 12 x 15 inch rectangle)."

Serves or Makes: One 9 inch loaf


  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 ounces dark chocolate
  • 1 1/ 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/ 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/ 4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/ 8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup pitted and quartered cherries


  • Step 1

    In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and dark chocolate until combined. Remove from heat. Add the cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon to the chocolate mix using a wooden spoon or spatula.

  • Step 2

    Spread filling over rolled out babka dough, then top with cherries. Shape and bake your babka as directed!
