A Note From feedfeed

We love a delicious air fryer recipe, and these rice paper dumplings are quick, crispy, and perfect for a meal or appetizer. What makes them so delicious is the depth of flavor from San-J Umami Tamari Splash, which we use to marinade our tofu and as a dipping sauce. It’s packed with rich flavors from the tamari, red miso, black garlic, kombu, shiitake, and tomato! It’s maxed out on delicious flavor, not to mention it’s vegan, gluten free, and has 70% less sodium than most tamari. Try these rice paper dumplings the next time you need a quick snack with tons of veggies and even more flavor!

Recipe Card

ingredients

  • 1/2 block of firm or extra firm tofu
  • 1/3 cup San-J Umami Tamari Splash , plus more for dipping
  • 2 carrots, peeled
  • 2 Persian cucumbers
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/2 cup kimchi, chopped
  • 2 nori sheets
  • 12 sheets rice paper
  • 2 cups seasoned sushi rice
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • Sesame oil, for drizzling

Method

  • Step 1

Slice the tofu into 6 equal strips, about 1 inch each, and place into a bowl. Cover the tofu in the San-J Umami Tamari Splash and brush it in on both sides. Cover and marinade the tofu for at least 30 minutes.

  • Step 2

Grate the carrot and cucumber. For the cucumber, we recommend squeezing the shreds in a paper towel to release excess liquid. Thinly slice the avocado. Trim the nori sheets into 2 inch strips. For the sushi rice, you can scoop it right onto the dumplings or, if you're using cold leftover sushi rice, slice into 2 inch squares.

  • Step 3

Make the dumplings one at a time. Dip the rice paper in water and lay it on a cutting board. We recommend using two sheets of rice paper per dumpling. Layer in a strip of nori, about 1/4 of rice, one of the tofu slices, a tablespoon of shredded carrot, a tablespoon of shredded cucumber, a tablespoon of kimchi, and 2-3 avocado slices. Fold in the horizontal sides of the rice paper, then the bottom, and tightly wrap it up like a burrito.

  • Step 4

Once all the rice paper dumplings are wrapped, toss them into a bowl of sesame seeds. The rice paper should be sticky enough for the sesame seeds to stick to. Sprinkle sesame seeds on all sides of the dumplings until thoroughly coated and then add the dumplings to the air fryer.

  • Step 5

Depending on your air fryer, you may have to cook your dumplings in batches, we ended up doing two batches of 3 dumplings. Drizzle a little sesame oil over the dumplings and then air fry at 350F for 12 minutes, flipping halfway through. If the dumplings aren't crispy enough, air fry for another 3-4 minutes.

  • Step 6

Serve immediately with more San-J Umami Tamari Splash in a dipping bowl on the side. Enjoy!
