ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups red lentils
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 cups finely chopped carrots
  • 1 stalk finely chopped celery
  • 1 medium onion
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of lemon
  • Parsely, chopped, for garnish
  • Red chili flakes, for garnishing (optional)

Method

  • Step 1

    Wash the lentil nicely and keep aside.

  • Step 2

    Heat oil in a pan and add garlic cloves. Saute for a few seconds or until the raw smell of garlic goes away.

  • Step 3

    Add chopped onion, bay leaf and saute till the onion becomes translucent.

  • Step 4

    Next, add the carrot and celery. Saute for about 2 minutes before adding the spices, vegetable bouillon, and salt with around 1 teaspoon of water to avoid burning of spices.

  • Step 5

    Add the lentil, saute for about a minute and then add the water. Let it simmer for around 20-25 minutes or until the lentil is nicely cooked.

  • Step 6
