Vegan Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken

ingredients

  • 1 cup canned or dried chickpea
  • 1 large quartered shallots
  • 6 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp 5 spice powder
  • 1 tbsp white pepper
  • 2 tsp optional Japanese seven spice powder
  • 1 Handful Thai basil

Method

  • Step 1

    If using dried chickpeas. Soak overnight and dry with kitchen towel.

  • Step 2

    Preheat oven to 400F

  • Step 3

    Combine all of the ingredients in a blender. Make sure to drain and pat dry canned chickpea. Grind until crumbly.

  • Step 4

    Spoon the mixture by the tsp onto greased foil or parchment paper. (I drizzle olive oil, so it makes it more crispy!)

  • Step 5

    Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until crispy and golden brown. Turn over at half way point.

  • Step 6

    Sprinkle some five spice powder and white pepper.

  • Step 7

    Serve hot and enjoy!
