French Toast Stuffed with Nutella

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (or nut milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar, optional*
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (or extract)
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • Butter, for greasing
  • 4 tablespoons divided plus more for serving Nutella
  • 4 thick slices sourdough bread
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting, optional
  • Crushed toasted hazelnuts, for serving, optional

Method

  • Step 1

    Whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, salt and sugar in a shallow dish.

  • Step 2

    Butter griddle and place on medium heat.

  • Step 3

    Place bread in egg mixture for 1-2 minutes on both sides to coat evenly.

  • Step 4

    Transfer to hot pan and cook both sides till golden brown (about 3-4 minutes)

  • Step 5

    Spread 2 tablespoons of nutella on 2 of the 4 slices of french toast. Top with the second piece of bread to sandwich together.

  • Step 6

    Remove from heat, top with extra Nutella, dust with powdered sugar, and toasted hazelnuts if desired.
