Recipe Card

For the fish


  • 5 Whole reef fish
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 fresh red chillies
  • 2 curry leaves, washed and dried
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
  • Salt

For the salsa


  • 1 ripe mango, diced
  • A handful of fresh coriander, finely chopped
  • 1/2 lime, juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 red chilli, finely chopped


  • Step 1

    Preheat the grill

  • Step 2

    Blend cumin, peppercorns, chilli, curry leaves, garlic, onion, and salt till it becomes a smooth paste

  • Step 3

    Make deep cuts along the sides of the fish that has been descaled in order for it to absorb the flavours and pack the spice paste within the grooves

  • Step 4

    Place the fish on a tray that has been lined by foil and grill on both sides until the fish is cooked thoroughly.

  • Step 5

    Make the salsa by combining all ingredients in a small bowl

  • Step 6

    Serve the grilled fish with preferred carbs such as bread, rice or roti.
