Fo the Spice Mix

ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Patties

ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 8 ounces bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 large tomato, peeled and grated
  • 3/4 cup almond meal

Other

ingredients

  • 1 red capsicum, cut into 3/4 inch thick strips
  • 1 yellow capsicum, cut into 3/4 inch thick strips
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • Sliced pickles
  • Fresh chillies, sliced thinly
  • Serve with: Lettuce Leaves or Burger Buns
  • Optional: cheese and sauce

Method

  • Step 1

    Line a rimmed pan with parchment paper.

  • Step 2

    In a small bowl, mix spice ingredients together. Set aside.

  • Step 3

    Combine ground beef, chopped bacon, egg, tomato and almond meal to a bowl. Mix together with your hands until well combined. Add the homemade spice mix to the meat mixture. Knead until blended.

  • Step 4

    Shape into 6 oz burgers and place onto the prepared pan. Set in the fridge for 15 minutes.

  • Step 5

    In the meantime heat up the BBQ and add the capsicum strips. BBQ each side until lightly charred. Set aside on a plate.

  • Step 6

    Place the beef patties onto the heated BBQ grill, over a high heat, and cook each side for approximately 6-7 minutes. Once cooked, remove from the BBQ grill and allow to rest for 5 minutes.

  • Step 7

    Assemble burgers using the lettuce leaves or burger buns, capsicum, onion, pickles and chilies. Optionally, add cheese and sauce to the burgers.
