Spicy Candied Bacon Twists

Recipe Intro From christinefiorentino_

I'm not often intrigued by super viral, trending recipes, as many of them seem flat out impractical; simply “for the TikTok,” so to speak. It’s fun to watch others try these recipes out and provide feedback, but I never feel particularly called to do so myself. However, when I saw bacon strips being twisted into pretty, dainty little straws coated with brown sugar and then cooked to crisp sweet, salty, candied perfection all over the internet, I knew I definitely had to give this one a try! These Spicy Candied Bacon Twists are a fun, sweet, salty, spicy snack you can enjoy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or serve as one element of your appetizer spread. They’re super simple and truly practical to prepare, meaning you may actually make them again for your next gathering, and it’s a unique, more elegant way to enjoy bacon. With the perfect bit of heat and sweet, I highly recommend you grab two sheet pans, a baking rack, and hit the spice drawer to make these flavorful snack time treats ASAP!

ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce package) hardwood smoked bacon
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Method

  • Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire rack over the foil.

  • Step 2

In a small bowl, stir together brown sugar, ground mustard, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and cayenne pepper. Place aside.

  • Step 3

Twist each strip of bacon into a straw shape. Place on prepared baking rack. Sprinkle with brown sugar mixture. Cook 15 minutes. Remove from oven and transfer twists to a parchment lined sheet pan. Cook 15 minutes, until golden brown, crispy, and caramelized.

  • Step 4

Return bacon twists to original prepared baking rack. Allow excess fat to drip and twists to crisp up. Transfer to a serving platter.
