Recipe Card
ingredients
- 1 (18 ounce) package all-butter puff pastry, thawed according to package instructions
- 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1 large egg, beaten for egg wash
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400F. Line a half baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2
Place cream cheese, sugar, and orange zest in a medium sized mixing bowl
Step 3
With a handheld mixer beat on low until the sugar is well combined. Add egg yolk, ground cinnamon, and salt. Continue to mix until just combined, about 20 seconds.
Step 4
Whisk the whole egg in a small bowl.
Step 5
Generously sprinkle flour over the work surface. Unfold one section of the puff pastry and roll it out to a 8x8-inch square.
Step 6
Cut the puff pastry into 4, 4-inch squares. Fold a square in half on the diagonal, so it forms a triangle.
Step 7
Using a sharp chef’s knife or a bench scraper, cut along the inside of the triangle about ½ inch from the edge as if you’re cutting smaller triangle inside the main triangle, but don’t cut all the way to the top point.
Step 8
Unfold the triangle and brush the puff pastry with the egg wash. Take the cut strip of one side of the square and fold it over so that the corner point of the square so it sits directly on top of the corner point of the smaller square. Brush the edges with egg wash. Repeat with the remaining triangles.
Step 9
Place the pastries on the baking sheet. Place 2-3 teaspoons of the filling in the center of each pastry.
Step 10
Bake the pastries for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Move the pastries to a wire and let them cool to room temperature.
Step 11
Fill the center of the pastries with Nutella and drizzle Nutella over of the top of the pastries.
