ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup cold all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoon cold unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup ice cold water

Method

  • Step 1

Whisk the cold flour and salt. Add the butter cubes. Then use your fingers to work the butter into the flour so you’ll end up with pea-sized pieces of butter. You have to work fast so everything stays cold.

  • Step 2

When there are no large pieces of butter left, start drizzling your ice-cold water about 1-2 tablespoons at a time. This time use a fork to distribute the water. Keep adding water and mixing until the dough starts to come together. (You can test it by squeezing the dough pieces together, they should hold together.) Keep in mind that you may not need all the water

  • Step 3

Now bring the dough pieces together to form a ball and flatten it into a disc. Chill the dough for 2 hours or up to 3 days.

  • Step 4

Roll out the dough, transfer to a pie plate, trim and decorate the edges.

  • Step 5

    Follow your desired pie recipe.
