ingredients
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 12 ounces chocolate spread
- 1/3 cup sliced almonds
- Powdered sugar, for garnish
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Step 2
Thaw puff pastry dough per instructions on the package.
Step 3
Visually divide the dough into three vertically equal sections. Use a pastry knife to cut and make 10 equal strips on both sides of the center. Cut at an angle up.
Step 4
Remove the first flaps from the top and bottom cuts on both sides.
Step 5
Spread the chocolate evenly onto the center strip of the puff pastry, leaving a small margin around the edges.
Step 6
Fold the top middle piece down. Do the same to the bottom piece. Then, grab a strip from the top right corner and pull to fold over to the other side, connecting the end to the medial side of the second strip. Press down the end. Alternate overlapping from each side until you reach the bottom.
Step 7
Place both pastries in the center of a lined parchment paper tray, about an inch apart. Place into the freezer to chill for 5 minutes.
Step 8
Brush over the entire pastry with heavy cream right before baking. Use an egg wash instead if you prefer the glistening, golden shiny look. Heavy cream encourages more browning. Next, sprinkle the center of the pastry with sliced almonds and course sugar.
Step 9
Bake both pastries at the same time for about 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Dust lightly with powdered sugar.
