ingredients
- 2 pounds potatoes, sliced 1/8-inch thick
- 2 cups grated gruyere cheese
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- fresh thyme
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 f.
Step 2
Grease the 2-quart baking dish with butter.
Step 3
In a bowl mix heavy cream with salt, pepper, and spices.
Step 4
Spread half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish. Make sure the layer is even. Sprinkle 1 cup of cheese over the potatoes.
Step 5
Make the second layer with the rest of the sliced potatoes and pour the heavy cream mixture on top. Make sure to pour the mixture over every part of the dish.
Step 6
Sprinkle the top with fresh thyme leaves and the rest of the grated cheese.
Step 7
Bake in the oven for about 75 min. Potatoes should be tender and the tops golden brown. Heavy cream and starch from potatoes will result in a creamy sauce.
