Recipe Intro From alexawhatsfordinner

September 2022 will go down as the month of butter boards! This amazing concept comes from Joshua McFadden, but was popularized by @justinesnacks.

It's basically a charcuterie board, but instead of meats & cheeses, it's softened butter with any toppings you'd like! This version is savory, spicy, and delicious.

It features garlic confit, Calabrian chilis, nuts for crunch, pops of lemon zest, and honey for sweetness. Get creative with the toppings and add whatever you'd like! Enjoy!

ingredients

  • 30 peeled garlic cloves
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Sprigs of fresh thyme, optional
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature & softened
  • 1 teaspoon flakey sea salt
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts
  • 1 tablespoon pistachios, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Calabrian chilis, chopped
  • 1 bunch fresh basil, chiffonade
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Method

  • Step 1

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. In an oven safe baking dish, add in garlic cloves, olive oil, thyme, and Kosher salt. You want the cloves to be fully submerged in oil. Cover and bake in oven until the garlic is golden and tender, about 2 hours.

  • Step 2

On a board, spread the softened butter. Sprinkle on flakey sea salt and lemon zest. Top with pine nuts, pistachios, garlic confit cloves, Calabrian chilis, basil, and honey. Serve with bread or crackers for dipping. Enjoy!
