Recipe Intro From theamateurmixologist
Enjoy the tropical burst of a Passion Fruit Mojito, an easy-to-make cocktail that transports you straight to the sunny beaches of the Caribbean. This mix boasts an exotic flavor with just a handful of ingredients, and it comes together in just minutes!
Recipe Description
I’m using a combo of two wonderful Angostura rums from Trinidad; their Reserva white rum and their delicious Angostura deluxe aged rum blend with its silky smoothness & toasty flavor notes from the charred barrels. Add to the rums a mix of vanilla and maple syrups, lime juice, mint, soda, and the aforementioned passion fruit; then I think we’ve got ourselves a winner.

Passion Fruit Mojito Ingredients
Angostura Reserva Rum: This is a light, aged rum with a smooth profile, ideal for cocktails. If unavailable, substitute with another light or white rum that is aged to ensure a similarly smooth flavor.
Angostura 1919 Rum: A distinctive, dark-aged rum known for its rich and complex flavors. You can substitute it with another dark rum, preferably one that is also aged to capture a similar depth of flavor.
Vanilla Syrup: This adds a sweet and distinctly vanilla flavor to drinks. If you can't find vanilla syrup, make a simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) and add a few drops of vanilla extract.
Passion Fruit: Known for its tropical, tangy sweetness. If fresh passion fruit is hard to find, use bottled passion fruit juice or puree. As a last resort, a mixture of mango and pineapple juice can mimic some of its flavor characteristics.
Test Kitchen Notes
Muddling Technique: When muddling the mint and passion fruit, use gentle pressure to release the oils from the mint leaves without shredding them. This preserves the fresh flavor and prevents bitterness.
Choice of Rum: The use of both Angostura Reserva and Angostura 1919 rums adds a unique blend of flavors, from the light floral notes of the Reserva to the rich, toasted nuances of the 1919. Matching the rum to the intensity of the passion fruit is key to maintaining balance in the cocktail.
Balance of Sweetness and Tartness: Adjust the amount of maple and vanilla syrups based on the ripeness and tartness of the passion fruit used. Riper passion fruits may require less syrup to achieve the desired sweetness.
Serving Temperature: Serve the mojito ice cold to enhance its refreshing qualities. Using crushed ice can also help to keep the drink cooler for longer, perfect for warm days.
Garnish: The garnish not only adds visual appeal but also enhances the drinking experience. Include a sprig of mint and a slice of lime or a piece of passion fruit to reinforce the flavors in the drink.
FAQs
What is passion fruit mojito made of?
A Passion Fruit Mojito is made with a combination of mint leaves, lime juice, rum (often white), and the pulp of passion fruit. It is sweetened with syrups such as maple syrup and vanilla syrup, then topped off with a splash of soda water for fizz.
What is the difference between a virgin mojito and a mint mojito?
A virgin mojito, also known as a non-alcoholic mojito, does not contain any rum, which is traditionally used in mojitos. In contrast, a mint mojito refers to the classic version of the mojito that emphasizes mint and includes rum. Both versions include mint leaves, lime juice, sugar or syrup, and soda water, but the virgin mojito substitutes the rum with more soda water or other non-alcoholic ingredients.
How many calories are in a passion fruit mojito?
The calorie content of a Passion Fruit Mojito can vary depending on the specific recipe and serving size, but typically, a standard serving (about 150 ml or 5 ounces) might contain approximately 150-200 calories. This estimate assumes the use of syrups and alcohol, which are the main sources of calories in the drink.
What does a passionfruit mojito taste like?
A Passion Fruit Mojito tastes refreshingly tropical and tangy with a sweet and slightly tart flavor profile, thanks to the passion fruit. The mint adds a cool and fresh note, while the lime juice provides a citrusy zing. The syrups add a sweetness that balances the tartness of the passion fruit, and the rum brings a subtle warmth and complexity.
