PLUM MULLED WINE

"Mulled wine is one of my absolute favorite drinks for any chilly night. I love allowing it to gently mull on the stove top for a few hours, making the house smell of warm spices. In this extra boozy version, I added the plums and homemade plum brandy to provide more depth and flavor."

ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine
  • 1 cup plum brandy
  • 1 ruby port
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 10 Italian plums
  • 5 star anise
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 12 cloves

Method

  • Step 1

    Combine the wine, brandy, port, brown sugar, orange, plums, star anise, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat for 30 mins and up to 1 hour. Do not boil. Strain to remove solids and serve warm, garnished with a hollyhock flower.
