ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 6 tablespoons arrowroot starch, divided
  • 3 tablespoons San-J No Soy Tamari
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 scallion, sliced `
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons water mixed with 1 teaspoon arrowroot starch (to make a slurry)

Method

  • Step 1

In a bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with salt, black pepper, and 3 tablespoons of arrowroot starch. Let it sit until the steak absorbs the starch. Once absorbed, add the remaining 3 tablespoons of arrowroot starch and toss to evenly coat.

  • Step 2

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches, add the coated steak slices and pan-fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat until all steak pieces are cooked.

  • Step 3

In a separate pan, bring San-J No Soy Tamari and pineapple juice to a gentle boil.

  • Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the water and arrowroot starch to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the sauce and continue stirring as the mixture thickens. If the sauce becomes too thick, dilute with additional water or pineapple juice.

  • Step 5

Once the sauce reaches a smooth, thick consistency, remove from heat and stir in sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds.

  • Step 6

In a heat-safe bowl, add the crispy steak and pour in half of the sauce. Toss to coat, adding more sauce as needed.

  • Step 7

Sprinkle with sliced scallions and additional sesame seeds. Serve immediately to enjoy the best crispiness!
