I have a confession to make...I am not always the best at following my own advice ? - I am HORRIBLE at slowing down around lunch time and really taking the time to do what I tell literally every single one of my nutrition clients to do - #1 - disconnect from technology #2 - take three deep breathes #3 - eat slowly, and mindfully...if your lunch is disappearing in less than 10 minutes you are eating it too fast #4 - allow your body to digest for 15 minutes before jumping back into work and possibly stressful tasks. - All of these things can really help support not only a healthy digestion but a healthy relationship with food. If we are always going into our meals rushed, stressed, and distracted howwwww can we honestly expect our bodies to digest our food well, and know when we are satisfied or maybe need more. - This year slowing down around meal times is a big priority of mine. One way that I am doing this is leaving my phone in the other room while I am eating. Making sure I am sitting down, not standing. And taking out a book I am reading and reading during my meal. When clients tell me they don’t like vegetables I’m all like, challenge accepted ?? We only know what we are exposed to, what we may be comfortable with, what we may be willing to try . . If our mind tells us we don’t like veggies then we won’t, the same way if our mind tells us to be afraid of flying then we will . . Personally, I hate it when my mind tries to control what I will and will not do, eat, try...so over the years I have chosen to reflect much more on the thoughts that would box me in, and challenge them . . For me the best example I have was when out of nowhere I became afraid to fly, it was crippling...but y’all know how much your girl loves to travel so I was like HELL NO am I accepting these thoughts. It took time, exposing myself to flying, pushing through my fears, trying out different coping mechanisms and eventually the fear went away . . .
