ingredients

  • 1 block tofu
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chilli flakes
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Salt
  • 2 cups cornflakes
  • Oil (for frying)

Method

  • Step 1

    Start off by crushing your cornflakes: place the cornflakes in a ziplock bag and seal. Grind/crush using a rolling pin until an even consistency is reached.

  • Step 2

    Drain and press the tofu block - getting rid of the excess liquid.

  • Step 3

    Cut tofu into cubes.

  • Step 4

    Add the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, turmeric, chilli flakes and salt to a bowl to make the batter.

  • Step 5

    Add water to the bowl until a smooth (liquid) consistency is formed. Slowly add more water (in small increments) until that consistency is reached.

  • Step 6

    Coat the tofu in this batter.

  • Step 7

    Roll the tofu blocks in the cornflakes for a crispy outside.

  • Step 8

    Fry in a pan with olive oil (on medium heat) until golden brown and crispy. Ensure all sides cook.

  • Step 9

    Once frying is complete, transfer tofu to a plate with paper towels to remove excess oil.

  • Step 10

    Then season fried tofu with salt for extra flavour.
