Spiraled Hot Dogs With Quick Pickled Onions

Ingredients: 

for the quick pickled onions

1 red onion, thinly sliced

1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp kosher salt

3/4 cup rice vinegar

for the hot dogs

1 pack hot dogs

wooden skewers

Directions:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, salt and vinegar and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add the onions to a clean jar, then pour vinegar mixture on top. Let sit for at least 30 minutes. 

Meanwhile, preheat your grill.  To spiral the hot dogs, thread the skewers through the hot dogs so the entire dog is on the skewer. Then, place on a cutting board and with a sharp knife carefully cut on an angle (cutting all the way down to the skewer) until you reach the end of the hot dog. 

Remove the skewer and repeat with the remaining hot dogs. When all of the hot dogs have been cut, grill to your liking and serve with pickled onions.
