ingredients
- 1 cup (200 ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 (3.5 ounce) pack vanilla pudding mix (instant; use your preferred brand)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional, for added sweetness)
- 10 1/2 ounces (300 grams) strawberries
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup (150 ml) whipping cream, whipped to soft peaks
- Plain cake, cut into cubes (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
Method
Step 1
Roughly chop the strawberries and toss with 2 tablespoons sugar. Let macerate for 25–30 minutes until juicy.
Step 2
Meanwhile, in a bowl, whip the heavy cream, milk, and vanilla pudding mix until thick and fluffy. Add powdered sugar to sweeten, if desired.
Step 3
Lightly mash the strawberries with a spoon to release more juices.
Step 4
To assemble, layer cake cubes in a trifle dish or serving bowl. Drizzle with orange juice, then spoon on macerated strawberries and pour over the cream mixture. Repeat layers as desired (2 layers works well)
Step 5
Refrigerate for 3–4 hours to set.
Step 6
Before serving, top with whipped cream and extra strawberries.
