"me showing how easy it is to make bread at home Have I influenced you yet??I’ve noticed that y’all love the easy baking videos (focaccia, biscuits, etc) So more to come! I’m thinking of either pita or brioche next Also, lots of questions on the focaccia post regarding what I exactly use—organic all-purpose flour & red star quick-rise yeast"

ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 12 slices of jalapeño

Method

  • Step 1

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

  • Step 2

Pour in the warm water and mix until a shaggy dough forms.

  • Step 3

Transfer the dough onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 4 minutes until it becomes smooth and slightly tacky. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add a couple of tablespoons of flour while kneading until it reaches the desired consistency.

  • Step 4

Place the smooth dough in a bowl and cover it with a clean towel.

  • Step 5

Allow it to rise in a warm place for about an hour until it almost doubles in size. [Note: Preheat the oven to 200°F, turn it off, then place the covered dough inside the warm oven with the door open to expedite the rising process.]

  • Step 6

Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for an additional minute. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.

  • Step 7

Shape each portion into a smooth ball and then use your thumb to create a hole in the center, shaping it like a bagel.

  • Step 8

Let the shaped bagels rest for 5-10 minutes.

  • Step 9

Preheat the oven to 425°F and prepare a pot of boiling water.

  • Step 10

Carefully transfer the bagels into the boiling water, boiling each side for about 1 minute. Remove the boiled bagels with a slotted spoon and place them on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

  • Step 11

Top each bagel with 2 tablespoons of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 3 slices of jalapeño.

  • Step 12

Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes or until they turn golden brown and develop a crispy texture.

  • Step 13

Once baked, let the bagels cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving with cream cheese.
