ingredients

  • 1 carton fresh strawberries (500g)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice

Method

  • Step 1

    Begin by washing, hulling and slicing strawberries.

  • Step 2

    Dissolve cornstarch in 3 tbsp of water.

  • Step 3

    Add strawberries and cornstarch mixture along with all the other ingredients to a small saucepan over medium heat.

  • Step 4

    Bring mixture to a simmer while stirring constantly. Allow mixture to simmer/cool for 5 minutes. Mixture will thicken slightly while it cooks.

  • Step 5

    Remove pan from heat and allow to cool. The mixture will thicken further as it cools.
