ingredients
- 1 cup whole raw hazelnuts (I got mine at Trader Joe's)
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon flaky salt
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350.
Step 2
Place hazelnuts on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally. Watch carefully so you don't burn them! Once you can smell them, they're basically done :)
Step 3
Pour warm hazelnuts onto a clean kitchen towel & fold it up to sort of "steam" the hazelnuts. After maybe 5 minutes, roll the hazelnuts between the kitchen towel to help remove some of the skins. Not all of the skins need to come off, it doesn't have to be perfect!
Step 4
While the hazelnuts are wrapped in the kitchen towel, add 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (you could also use dark, white, whatever chocolate you like!) to a bowl, and melt in microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring between rounds.
Step 5
Pour chocolate onto a parchment lined baking sheet, and use an offset spatula to evenly spread out to desired thickness. Shape isn't super important, but I usually go for a rectangle-ish result.
Step 6
Rough chop your hazelnuts, (varying sized pieces is perfect!) and sprinkle onto the chocolate. Gently pat in using the palm of your hand to help them "stick"
Step 7
Sprinkle with flaky salt, and allow to set on the counter, or I prefer to add them to the freezer for about 30 minutes to make it quicker.
Step 8
Cut into squares, or break up with your hands for a more "rustic" result.
